One Stop Career Centers – Employment Services

The Monterey County One-Stop Career Centers are here to provide assistance to employers and job seekers by offering an array of employment related services. These services are provided through CalWORKs Employment Services (CWES), the Office for Employment Training (OET), and the Employment Development Department (EDD) at three One-Stop Career Centers located in Salinas, King City, and Seaside.

CalWORKs Employment Services (CWES)

Welcome to CWES! CalWORKs Employment Services (CWES) Staff is here to work together with families participating in employment related activities. Think of us as your personal assistant, coach, mentor, and tour guide to the many benefits of participating in CalWORKs. Nothing is more important to us than the success of you and your family. To that goal we offer the highest quality Employment Services designed to ensure that you are well prepared for the exciting adventure of employment. Employment Services include:

- Vocational Assessment

- Employment Readiness and Job Appraisal

- Education and Job Training Services

- Referrals to Community Services

- Ongoing Employment Goals Coaching

We also offer Supportive Services which allow you to focus on your employment goals without having to worry about the day to day challenges that can get in the way. Supportive Services are provided to assist with many of the most common costs incurred while working toward employment. Supportive Services include:

- Child Care

- Transportation

- Work Related Education and Training Expenses such as Uniforms, Books, Licenses and Fees

Of course you may have needs beyond training and costs that must be met before considering employment. Our highly trained and professional staff is qualified to make referrals to other community services that you may also be interested in. Access to behavioral health, domestic abuse and substance abuse professionals can easily be arranged at no cost to you.

Definitions

Vocational Assessment (MPP 42-711.55): This is a computer based assessment that will allow you and your worker to identify your strengths and help to create an effective plan toward employment.

Specific areas include:

- Identification of your work history and an inventory of your employment skills, knowledge, and abilities.

- Identification of your educational history and present competencies.

- Identification of your needs including the need for supportive services in order to obtain the greatest benefit from the employment and training services offered under CalWORKs.

- A detailed analysis of areas of employment that offer the highest levels of personal success given your current skills and the local labor market conditions.

- Additional local labor market information.

- Identification of any physical or mental conditions that should be considered along with your employment goals.

- Identification of the extensive available resources available to help you achieve your goals.

Employment Readiness and Job Appraisal (MPP 42-711.52): This is an important and confidential meeting between you and your Employment and Training Worker to discuss your employment history, education, skills and supportive services as well as any other information that will be helpful in developing your employment goals.

One-Stop Partnerships (Other County and State Offices)

Co-located in the One Stop Career Center is the Office for Employment Training (OET), OET has been a major provider of employment services to local residents since 1981. Under the Workforce Investment ACT (OET) provides services to job seekers and employers.

Employment Development Department (EDD) is a state office in residence at the One-Stop Career Center. This state department administers Unemployment Insurance and Disability Insurance.
